Vote at Newfield's Annual Town Meeting:   Saturday, March 14, 2009

Polls open from 1 - 5 pm  at  West Newfield Town Hall.

On Feb. 28th Shapleigh citizens voted 114 to 66 to enact the "Shapleigh Water Rights and Local self-Government Ordinance.".

PLEASE HELP PROTECT OUR AQUIFER!

Water does not stop flowing at town lines. Water supports life of all species, including those species found in the Vernon Walker Game Management Area.

NEWFIELD can help support the effort to PROTECT OUR SHARED RESOURCES by voting to enact the "Newfield Water Rights and Local Self-Government Ordinance" On Sat. March 14th.

Newfield currently has a regulatory ordinance that sets the rules to obtain a permit to remove and sell water for profit. Unfortunately a regulatory approach, such as the one that a municipal planning board uses, cannot allow the citizens of Newfield to vote on whether or not they would approve large scale water extraction in town. The basis for this regulatory approach is Municipal Law. The only way for the citizens to have a say is to enact the "Newfield Water Rights and Local Self Government Ordinance". This ordinance was written by lawyers versed in Constitutional Law which is a higher section of law containing the people's language.

A regulatory Ordinance, DOES NOT STOP LARGE SCALE WATER EXTRACTION - IT PERMITS IT!

The local self-governance ordinance, gives THE PEOPLE THE RIGHT TO DECIDE how their natural resource(s) will be allocated and protected.

BACK TO BASICS:

Maine’s Constitution declares: “all power is inherent in the people; all free governments are founded in their authority and instituted for their benefit, [and that] they have therefore an unalienable and indefeasible right to institute government and to ALTER, REFORM, or TOTALLY CHANGE the same, when their safety and happiness require it; . . . . . . . .”

"Of the people, by the people, for the people"

Please take time to learn about this important ordinance and vote accordingly.

One more informational session will be held on Sat., March 7, 2009
at the West Newfield Town Hall from 1-3pm.
Please join us and get your questions answered.
